Eastern Meadowlark

The Eastern Meadowlark, well loved on the American prairie, has a cheerful song, among the first heard in spring. It constructs an elaborate covered nest on the ground. Like other grassland birds, meadowlarks are declining in number because their habitat is being taken over by humans.
