African Wild Cat
Status : Unknown, but threatened because of hybridisating with
domestic and feral cats causing rarity in a pure bred wildcat.
Finding pure strains of the African Wildcat only in remote,
protected areas, away from domestic cats.
Location : Most widespread of the lybica group. Throughout
Africa, Middle East, Asia and to India .
It's coloration varies, in
coat color and pattern, according to it's location. Coat
thickness, color and markings change throughout the range. It is
about as big as the caracal but is slightly stockier with
shorter limbs and even larger paws.
Similar in apperance to it's European cousin but is generally
less shy and nervous. Except for it's long legs, it looks
similar to a domestic tabby cat and sits in an identical way, in
an upright posture with it's forefeet placed neatly
together. Today the
African wildcat is often found near villages and farms, where it
interbreeds with the domestic cats to produce fertil young.
Sometimes being hard to distinguish between domestic and wild.

other prey is scarce.

3000 M high and live in a voriaty of habitats but no in tropical
rainforests. From deserts to mountains to waterways. |
