Clearnose Skate
The skates and rays are close relatives of sharks. Skates lay
eggs in rectangular cases with tendrils at each corner. These
often wash up on beaches and are known as "mermaids' purses."
Look For: A ray with dark bars on upper side. Small, narrow tail
fin.
Length: Width of disk: 18".
Habitat: Shallow coastal waters.
Range: New York to Florida. |
