Sea Gooseberry
Unlike many jellyfish, Sea Gooseberries do not sting. The sticky
bristles on the trailing tentacles capture small crustaceans,
fish eggs and larvae, and other tiny animals. The tentacles then
contract and wipe the prey off on the mouth, which immediately
swallows it.
Look For: Small, floating, egg-shaped jelly-like creatures,
usually in swarms near shore. Two tentacles.
Length: 1".
Habitat: Floating below the water surface, usually near shore.
Range: Maine to Florida and Texas.
